Safety Tips & Scam Prevention

Essential rules to buy and sell vehicles safely across Ghana

Golden Rule: Inspect first, pay second

Never send Mobile Money deposits, delivery fees, or "commitment money" before inspecting the vehicle and verifying original DVLA & customs documents in person.

#1

Never send advance payments or deposits

Do not send Mobile Money, bank transfers, or "commitment/delivery fees" before seeing the vehicle in person and verifying all paperwork.

#2

Meet in a busy, well-lit public place

Arrange viewings at police stations, DVLA offices, major shopping malls, or busy fuel stations during daylight hours. Bring a friend along.

#3

Match the seller ID to vehicle documents

Ensure the name on the seller Ghana Card matches the DVLA registration certificate (Form C) and customs clearance documents.

#4

Inspect with a trusted mechanic

Have an independent mechanic inspect the engine, gearbox, chassis number (VIN), suspension, and OBD diagnostics before you negotiate final payment.

#5

Verify VIN & customs duty at GRA / ICUMS

Confirm the 17-digit chassis number on the car body matches the customs declaration and that full import duty was paid.

#6

Complete DVLA ownership transfer together

Sign a written bill of sale with witnesses and initiate the DVLA change-of-ownership process before handing over full funds.

#7

Use traceable bank or verified MoMo payments

Pay inside a bank branch or via verified Mobile Money in the seller presence after documents and keys are handed over.

#8

Report suspicious ads immediately

If a price looks unrealistically low or a seller pressures you for a deposit, tap "Report abuse" on the listing — our moderators act fast.
